Mary Coye is a graduate of Spring Hill College. During her 3 years at Spring Hill, she graduated with a double major in Health Care Administration and Financial Economics. Her first indoor season at Spring Hill they won their conference, and in 2021, she was able to compete in her first beach season. Due to an injury, her college career was cut short. Before starting her career at Spring Hill, she played volleyball under Coach Wood at McGill Toolen. She was the MVP of the freshman team her 8th grade year. Her freshman year she was a starter and captain on the JV team. Her sophomore through senior year she was a starter for the Dirty Dozen. She made it to the state tournament each of her years on Varsity, and was lucky enough to win a state championship her junior and senior year.
In 2020 she did an administrative internship with LAV, while coaching a 15s team and a 12s team. In 2021, she was hired as a Co-Director and was the head coach for our successful 11U local team. In 2022, along with her administration roles, she was the Assistant Coach for the 16 National Black team. This 16s team was the first team in club history to earn a bid to Nationals at a National Qualifier tournament. For the 2022-2023 season, she became the first full time employee for LAV as a Co-Director and Master Coach of all programs. She trained for her Master Coaching position under Shawn McGlaughlin, who has coached at the collegiate level for 13 years. In 2023, along with master coaching, she coached a very successful 12 National Black team who qualified for Nationals in Minneapolis.
In May of 2021, Mary Coye began LAV’s Sand Volleyball program. In the 2022 Sand Volleyball season, LAV sent its first pair to the USA Junior’s National Championships where the pair placed 9th in their division. She helped begin our Fall League in 2020, and has helped grow this program since then through her administration and her coaching skills. Mary Coye stepped into grassroots administration in 2020 when she began her administrative internship, and she has helped ensure this programming runs smoothly. In 2022, she master coached our newest programs Volley Tots and Summer Academy.
Mary Coye could not be more excited about continuing in this role. She has a unique perspective as she has been a player in the LAV gym and has been a coach, so she has been a huge part in our club’s growth. Her goal is to continue to empower young athletes and to further the knowledge of volleyball within the Gulf Coast Region.
